SIMCAC Member Spotlight Article

Samaria Sherman - Managing Partner, SVi Services, LLC

1. Briefly describe your current company and role.

Samaria is Managing Director at SVi Services, LLC providing consulting and advisory services to Senior IT executives, managing engagements across a range of financial services with a focus on IT strategy, organizational change management, and program management.

2. You’ve been in this position for about two years, what has been your biggest challenge, learning lesson or takeaway?

My biggest challenge has been persuading my senior executive clients that getting assistance from an independent consultant is now nuevo to influence their board of directors’ decisions for supporting strategic initiatives. Once I convince them to hire me, they increase their effectiveness in implementing projects. My biggest takeaway is I am fortunate that I have maintained my network of IT and business professionals built during my 25+ years in the financial services industry, which has paid off tremendously.

3. Outside of work, what endeavors are you most excited about today?

Outside of work, I enjoy volunteering my time coaching and mentoring youths and millennials to positively influence our future corporate leaders.  I serve on a board as an executive director at STEM for Her, a non-profit organization, that promotes education to create awareness, excitement, and opportunities among girls and young women to pursue STEM-related careers. I also volunteer with Year Up, an organization with a mission to close the opportunity divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. I am active with SIMCAC which offers a diverse network community of like-minded leaders committed to each other’s success and providing opportunities to learn from peers of world class thought leaders in information technology, cybersecurity and STEM education.

4. Next week you'll be attending the SIMCAC Executive Women Leadership Breakfast where the event topic will be "Identifying and Living Out Your Brand." In your own words, what does it mean to live out your brand? How do events such as this help to empower women to stand tall amid the challenges they face in today's workplace?

To live out my own brand, means I am empowered to do what I do best – leadership and creativity, with no strict boundaries to execute results!  Specifically, leveraging my interpersonal skills with my diverse network of professionals, exercising my uncanny ability to work with proteges, peers, and superiors to achieve results by tapping into their unknown or hidden talent.
