FWSIM and HMG Strategy produced another great CIO Summit on June 9th, 2021, hosted by Hunter Muller, President/CEO of HMG Strategy and Jim Panos, CIO, Central National Gottesman Inc. and President, Fairfield/Westchester SIM. Despite the constraints created by the pandemic, we had a great showing of attendees who joined the conference virtually. In Hunter’s own words, this was one of the top Virtual Digital Summit he hosted in the past 15 months. This has been an annual event for the last 14 years, with HMG as the conference planner, and is an event that we work hard at to ensure our members and IT friends get to have a full immersion in innovative and disruptive technologies with career-building themes.
The theme this year -- “Courageous Leadership and Fearless Reinvention: Guiding the Modern Enterprise in Dynamic Times" – was a perfect way to highlight how all of us have been coping with challenging environment and reinventing ourselves to innovate.
Hunter kicked off with an Executive Interview with Khalid Kark, Managing Director, Deloitte CIO Program where they discussed Deloitte’s ongoing research on technology leadership that reveals the need for Kinetic leaders to harness the unprecedent opportunities during this era of unfamiliar challenges and unexpected risks. These leaders balance organizational agility and resilience, help envision the technology-driven future, lead complex transformations, and are the chief architect of innovation and change for the business.
Hunter also interviewed Vince Campisi, SVP, Enterprise Services & Chief Digital Officer, Raytheon Technologies talking about The Journey of Building Raytheon Technologies and What Lies Ahead for them. That was followed by a Tech talk by George Westerman, Senior Lecturer, MIT Sloan School of Management who talked about Using IT Risk to Improve Decision-making.
We had a few Executive Panel discussions moderated by Anna Ransley, VP Digital and Technology, Heineken and Joseph Puglisi, VP IT, Nice-Pak Products, Inc. Anna discussed how to design an Agile Enterprise Architecture with a Need for Speed with a panel that included Julia Anderson, Global CIO, Smithfield Foods, Karl Hightower, Chief Data Officer, Novant Health and Stuart Kippelman, SVP & CIO, Platform Specialty Products Corporation. Joe discussed Balancing Risk Management in the Age of Accelerated Innovation with a panel that included Shamla Naidoo, Independent Director, QBE North America, George Westerman, Senior Lecturer, MIT Sloan School of Management and Michael Zanga, Business Development Executive, IBM.
We ended with a keynote Executive Interview of Jim Swanson, EVP and Enterprise CIO, Johnson & Johnson who reflected on his journey at J&J and all the experiences he gained across his career as CIO at J&J as well as outside of J&J. He stressed the importance of remaining focused on a greater purpose – in this case, using technology for good, to advance human health. In order to make progress toward achieving this purpose, Jim and his organization are focused on embedding digital in the business strategy and prioritizing talent, culture, and change management.
We thank you for attending and hope you found value in the sessions and enjoyed the chance to connect with each other including our sponsors, eSentire and Rubrik. For those who could not join us, there will be next year!
A big shout out to all the FSWIM members, HMG teams and sponsors who made this happen! What a job well-done!!
