Membership Criteria

Membership is offered to candidates who have a vested interest in broadly-based information systems and who are:


  • The Chief Information Officer or the Senior Information Systems Executive for their organization
  • Direct reports to the CIO or Senior Information Systems Executive and sponsored by him or her for membership.  This applies to companies with annual revenue over $1 Billion


  • A full-time university or college faculty member making a significant contribution to the IT field

Business Leader

  • Business leader responsible for strategic issues in the information industry overall, through such activities as professional speaking, writing articles, or conducting research


  • Membership is geared to practitioners with a limited number of consultants or vendors. This policy assures members that their participation and contribution will be held in the strictest confidence due to the proprietary nature of the information that may be exchanged

  • Consultants must be leaders at the partner/principal level who influence the direction of their own company or their clients’ companies, and who directly contribute to the IT profession

  • Expectations for vendor/consulting members:

    • Recruit two new members to the chapter per year

    • Provide sponsorship for chapter events

    • Actively participate on a Committee

To Join

The Philadelphia Chapter has a deep history and has established an application process to ensure the integrity of our membership make-up.  To that end, our membership process includes:

  • Completion of a SIM Philadelphia specific application

  • Interview by a member of the Membership Committee

  • Approval by the Membership Committee

  • Approval by the SIM Board
