Our Programs

PHISIM, the Philadelphia Philanthropic Society for Information Management Foundation, sponsors scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science or Information Technology who are going into their junior or senior year at universities in the Philadelphia area. The scholarships vary in dollar amount depending on the number of school programs qualifying and the funding available for that year. The university must be a member of SIM (Society for Information Management, Philadelphia chapter and its program must match certain criteria.

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must be in an approved major and program and have a financial need. Each school operates its own selection process. Winners are honored at a PHISIM/SIM dinner meeting in June of each year.

These awards not only enable the education of bright young people in Information Technology, but also highlight the need to foster attention on bringing talented individuals into careers in computer science, systems, and technology.

Teen Tech Camp

PHISIM supports the Teen Tech camp run by SIM Member InspiriTec each summer. The Teen Tech Camp program is known for providing a fun and engaging environment in which campers are exposed to Information Technology (IT) concepts and possible careers in IT. Students come from all corners of the Philadelphia region. For a week or more, campers have an opportunity to learn useful computer skills applicable to their high school coursework. In what has become one of the most popular camp projects, participants are given their own digital camera to create photo images which are later incorporated into presentations. Campers' projects are presented during a graduation event.

The camp also provides an opportunity for PHISIM/SIM members to give back to their community. Several SIM members give their time and wisdom as guest speakers to help kids learn about current opportunities in the IT field, how to prepare for a career in IT and about the wide variety of jobs within the IT field. In addition to hearing first-hand accounts from IT professionals, campers will get to experience a real-world IT workplace and college environment during field trips.

Through DonorsChoose.Org PHISIM has donated laptops to multiple elementary school classes throughout the greater Philadelphia area.  The introduction of technology to young students enables teachers to strive to achieve new heights in the classroom.  With each donation, the teachers keep us connected to their classes through regular updates and pictures of smiling faces! The success of our program in 2015 prompted the PHISIM Foundation to allocate even more monies toward this channel.  We are very excited to see 2016's impact on Philadelphia area classrooms!!!
