Welcome to SIM Women - Arizona
It is a pleasure to introduce you to SIM Women Arizona, a network within the Society for Information Management (SIM) that promotes communication, mentorship, leadership, and career development among the female members of SIM Arizona. My name is Laura Hemenway, and I am proud to lead this initiative for SIM Arizona.
SIM Women evolved from a vision to address gaps in soft skills, mentoring, and confidence for women in technology. This journey began in 2006 and has grown into a powerful platform fostering growth and connection among women IT leaders.
Why SIM Women Matters
We know from experience that women in technology often face unique challenges:
- Women are more likely to seek external mentorship and support rather than turning to male counterparts within their organizations.
- Female members of SIM sometimes avoid chapter meetings, fearing they’ll be one of the only women present.
- Many organizations lack structured mentoring programs or budgets for leadership development tailored to women’s needs.
SIM Women Arizona addresses these challenges and provides meaningful opportunities for growth, including mentorship programs, webinars, and networking events.
Our Initiatives
SIM Women Arizona offers several programs designed to uplift and empower women in technology:
- “Ladies Who Lunch”: A networking program for those who thrive in smaller, more personal groups.
- “Call a Coach”: A resource for situational executive coaching for those whose companies don’t offer this benefit.
- “1:1 Mentoring”: Pairing CIOs and IT leaders with women advancing in the IT field, fostering communication, self-awareness, and career growth.
Our programs promote inclusivity, bringing together both men and women in SIM to collaborate, share knowledge, and grow together.
