SIM DFW unites senior technology executives from diverse industries, academia, and consulting. Membership is open to technology professionals in leadership roles who influence the direction of technology within their organizations. The majority of our members (70%+) are IT practitioners, while the remaining 30% consists of academic, consultant, and other IT leaders.

Who Can Join?

To qualify for SIM DFW membership, applicants should generally fit one of the following categories. While these guidelines help set expectations, they are not rigid rules—each application is reviewed by our Membership Committee to ensure alignment with SIM DFW’s mission and membership criteria.

Practitioner – Senior technology professionals responsible for influencing technology direction in their organizations.

  • Typical titles: CIO, CTO, CDO, CISO, VP, or Director.
  • Must lead or support corporate/divisional technology strategy.

Academic – Full-time faculty members making a significant contribution to the technology field.

  • Typical titles: Dean, Department Chair, Professor, Associate Professor, Adjunct Professor.
  • Departments: Information Science, MIS, Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering.

Consultant – Leaders at the partner/principal level who influence technology direction for their company or their clients company.

  • Typical titles: Partner, Principal Consultant, Contract CIO, Virtual CIO, VP/Director of Consulting.
  • Must contribute to SIM DFW’s growth through membership recruitment, sponsorship, and volunteering for two years prior to being invited to apply for membership.
  • Sales professionals, account executives, and business development professionals are not eligible.

Other IT Leaders – Senior executives in non-IT roles who impact strategic IT direction.

  • Typical titles: CEO, President, CFO, COO, CMO, Partner, Principal.
