Why I Invest in SIM, and How SIM Invests in Me

By Grete Tiemeier posted 03-05-2021 08:00

There have been many times in my career where I have faced leadership obstacles that were hard to handle.  I would try to resolve these challenges by talking with close friends and family.  But my friends were in non-IT  leadership occupations and did not face the same challenges.

In order for me to be a good leader, I need accurate and timely information.  Having people in my corner that have been through the challenges, and can offer comfort, strength and guidance is essential.  This is what SIM provides for me.

Although I have not compared the benefits of SIM to other similar organizations, here are my observations.

SIM Minnesota gives me the opportunity to connect closely with other IT Leaders, make friends, and have some fun with those in the same profession.  SIM also allows me to take advantage of all of the things that SIM National has to offer, such as:

  • Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
  • Other state chapter events
  • National events
  • Members In Transition
  • SIM Women
  • Networking with leaders across the country

Other benefits include the opportunity to practice leadership skills by leading chapter initiatives and giving back to the community through STEM events and (potentially) scholarships, etc.
